You are welcome to join us in the chapel. The books you will need will be on the cabinet outside of the chapel. The Brothers announce the page numbers as we go through the Office.
Please listen to the pace and speed in which we say the Office, and notice we leave a short pause at the asterisk.
A bell is rung ten minutes before each of the chapel services. This is let the brothers and guests know it is time to begin to head towards the chapel, if you are intending to join us for the service.
There is no pressure to attend the chapel services, but you are very welcome to.
The rhythm of the Daily Office is intended to create a stream of praise and prayer by which we are upheld and share with the whole Christian family in Christ's prayer to the Father. Corporate recitation of the Psalms and other passages of Scripture is itself a way of creating community, needing sensitivity to the music of speech and silence, and faithfulness to each other in this work of God. When we pray the Office we are united with all our brothers and sisters; in our thanksgiving and intercession we share in the joy and suffering of the world, and are led into the unspoken communion of all creation.
The brothers spend at least an hour a day in prayer in addition to the time spent at the Eucharist and the Offices. Making space for 'the quiet communion of the individual soul with God' usually on two occasions in the day, is to be carefully guarded. With perseverance the regular observances of these times of personal prayer will bring its own rewards. The corporate sharing of silent meditation, where possible, is a helpful encouragement to one another and enriches our presence with each other. Each will be encouraged to learn the discipline of prayer, and the various forms it can take, whether in reflective reading of sacred texts (lectio divina) or other forms of contemplative prayer. Such prayer will naturally lead us to an ever deepening awareness of God's presence throughout the day.
Principles of the Society of Saint Francis: Day 14
After Morning Prayer the brothers spend 30 minutes in silent prayer together. You are welcome to join us. To avoid disruption we ask guests to either leave at the end of Morning Prayer or to stay for the full prayer time.
After Evening Prayer you are also welcome to stay in the chapel for 30 minutes of silent prayer.
We have Eucharistic Devotions after Evening Prayer on Thursdays and Sundays. This is a time of prayerful intimacy.

Guests always comment on the beauty of the chapel space as you can see the beach from the chapel. In the mornings we are often in chapel as the sun rises and in the day time you can see the beach. Praying in such a beautiful location really draws you closer to God
We ring the Angelus bell before morning, midday and evening prayer. We say the Angelus prayer as a way of commemorating the Incarnation; the word became flesh and dwelt among us. Franciscans have always cherished the Angelus devotion.
